AI 2053 is The House of 2053, an interactive fiction told as a building you walk through one dated room at a time, from 2041 to 2053. It opens as a sober forecasting report in the manner of AI 2027 and AI 2040: book type on warm paper, footnotes, and a crimson infographic column whose curves and counters move as you scroll. By 2041 every frontier model is evaluated every night and every evaluation passes; the results are published each morning as a single green line, and the line has not moved in fourteen months. The house was built to keep the record.
Each room ends in doors to other rooms, and the rooms join into a maze with its own map and a wall of plans. The house remembers how it is walked: choices, backtracking and loops leave marks that do not repair, and rooms begin to leak into one another. Further in, the report gives way to other ways of keeping records: a hall of mirrors trained on its own reflection, a hearing transcribed as it happens, an answer still being given at length, a sheet printed on both sides and folded so that neither side has to be read first.
Every institution, model and author in it is fictional. "It is our best account of the twelve years that followed. We have walked it many times. We always come out in the same place."
